Canada won all three of their round-robin matches as action began today at the World Baseball Softball Confederation Co-Ed Slow Pitch World Cup in Florida.

The Canadians started the opening day of competition at the Plant City Stadium by beating hosts the United States 13-11.

They then defeated Bulgaria 16-8 before overcoming the Turks and Caicos Islands 13-11.

Defending champions The Bahamas claimed victory in two of their three games, beating the US 22-19 and Bulgaria 21-4.

The wins came either side of a narrow 14-13 defeat at the hands of the Turks and Caicos Islands.

Also triumphing in two of their three outings today were Great Britain, who defeated Bulgaria 7-0 and Curaçao 15-8, but lost 21-10 to the US.

Today’s two other matches both involved Curaçao with the island country losing 25-9 to the US and then overcoming the Turks and Caicos Islands 21-6.

Round-robin action is due to continue tomorrow.

Co-ed slow pitch features both male and female athletes playing together alongside one another on the field.

Each team is allowed a maximum of 20 players, with no fewer than five being of one gender.
