Malaysia's Chong Wei Feng enjoyed a good start to his campaign at the Badminton World Federation (BWF) Macau Open when he won his men's singles first round match.

The seventh seed faced little difficulty in seeing off Lee Hock Lai, of the United States 21-12, 21-14 at the Tap Seac Multi-sports Pavilion.

Chong will be joined in the second round in this BWF Grand Prix Gold event by compatriot Liew Daren, whose biggest success to date is winning the 2012 French Open Super Series.

Daren, the 11th seed, recorded a convincing 21-19, 21-11 win over Thailand's Mek Narongrit.

Wei Feng is scheduled play Indonesia's Panji Ahmad Maulana in the second round, while Daren faces Japan's Koki Watanabe.

It was, however, the end of the road for Malaysia's Cheam June Wei, who lost 21-13, 21-16 to South Korea's Lee Hyun Il.

Satheishtharan Ramachandran, also of Malaysia, also failed to impress going down 21-11, 21-14 to Chinese Taipei's Shih Kuei Chun.

Action is due to continue tomorrow.
