Thailand’s Nitchaon Jindapol has claimed the women’s singles title at the Badminton World Federation (BWF) Bitburger Open after beating top seed Beiwen Zhang of the United States.

Jindapol, the second seed, triumphed 21-17, 15-21, 21-19 at the Saarlandhalle in the German city of Saarbrücken.

Victory secures her second BWF Grand Prix Gold title in four years.

Her first came at the same event in 2013, when she beat Bulgaria’s Linda Zechiri in the final.

There was another upset today in the men’s singles final as unseeded Dane Rasmus Gemke defeated fourth-seeded Taiwanese Hsu Jen Hao 21-18, 21-10.

Denmark and Thailand also had success in the respective men’s and women’s doubles events.

In the men’s doubles final, Denmark’s Kim Astrup and Anders Skaarup Rasmussen overcame Indonesia’s Fajar Alfian and Muhammad Rian Ardianto 21-19, 19-21, 21-18.

Thailand’s Jongkolphan Kititharakul and Rawinda Prajongjai beat Japan’s Akane Araki and Aoi Matsuda 21-19, 21-6 in the women’s doubles final.

There was disappointment for Denmark in the mixed doubles final, however, as Rasmussen and Line Højmark Kjaersfeldt lost 18-21, 17-21 to China’s He Jiting and Du Yue.
