The Argentine University Sports Federation (FeDUA) held its first academy for volunteer leaders.

Representatives from the International University Sports Federation (FISU) Volunteer Leaders Academy, Tatiana Alonso and Agustin Vampa, were in charge of the event in Villa María, Cordoba.

This is the city which was chosen as the American capital of university sport last year, with 15 universities represented at the FeDUA academy.

They stayed at the Villa María National University during the event.

FeDUA President Emiliano Ojea opened the event alongside the host university’s principal, Luis Negretti and welfare secretary Daniela Dubois.

Joaquín Mones spoke about his experience at the FISU Volunteer Leaders Academy and members of the Association of Participants of the Olympic Academy talked on the selection of volunteers for the 2018 Buenos Aires Youth Olympic Games, to be held in Argentina’s capital city.

As a closing activity, the participants of the Academy joined the "Walk for Health", which attracted more than 1,000 people from the Villa María University community.

Volunteer leaders are an important part of university sport.

It takes thousands of volunteers of all ages and areas of expertise to ensure the smooth running of the Universiades, World University Championships, World University League and FISU education events each year.

Aimed at consolidating FISU expertise in sports volunteering, the first FISU Volunteers Academy took place in Kazan, Russia, in July.
