Nacra 15 sailing teams from Switzerland and Tunisia have secured their countries places at the Buenos 2018 Summer Youth Olympic Games following their performances at a qualifier in Medemblik in The Netherlands.

After 14 races, Switzerland’s Max Wallenberg and Amanda Bjork-Anastassov and Tunisia’s Chaima Chamari and Sami Arjoun booked their nations tickets to next year’s Games in Argentina’s capital.

They did so as the best-performing European and African pairings respectively.

Wallenberg and Bjork-Anastassov finished third in the overall standings behind winners Benno Marstaller and Chloe Collenette of Great Britain and runners-up Shannon Dalton and Jayden Dalton of Australia.

Chamari and Arjoun, meanwhile, ensured Tunisia qualification, despite coming last in the 28-team field that included representatives of 13 different countries.

The event in Medemblik was the first of four that make up the Nacra 15 qualification system for Buenos Aires 2018.

American city Miami is due to host the second event, the North and South America qualifier, from November 18 to 20.

It is then scheduled to be followed by an Asia and Oceania qualifier in the Australian state of Queensland from January 10 to 14 in 2018.

The final seven country placings will be determined at next year’s Nacra 15 World Championships, due to take place in Barcelona in Spain from April 22 to 28.

Argentina will receive a Buenos Aries 2018 wildcard as the host nation.

Once a country has qualified, it is up to their organising authorities to arrange their own selections.

The Nacra 15 Youth Olympic qualifying event was organised by the Nacra 15 International Class and the Royal Yacht Club Hollandia.

The Nacra 15 is the "pathway class" to the Olympic Nacra 17 multihull.

For many sailors, the next big event is set to be the World Sailing Youth World Championships in Chinese city Sanya from December 9 to 16.
