England have made it through to the semi-finals of the FIFA Under-17 World Cup in India with a comfortable 4-1 win over the United States this evening.

A hat-trick from Rhian Brewster at the Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Goa led England to the last four for the first time in the history of the competition.

Brewster scored twice in the first half with the assistance of teammate Phil Foden.

He broke the deadlock on 11 minutes after American goalkeeper Justin Garces blocked Foden’s cross into his path, with the Liverpool forward volleying the ball into the roof of the American net.

Three minutes later Foden fed Brewster, who neatly chipped his finish over the onrushing Garces to double England's lead.

England added a third in the second half and scored a third goal through Morgan Gibbs White, as he knocked home Brewster's low cross.

Though Josh Sargent pulled a goal back for the Americans, Brewster completed his hat-trick from the penalty spot in stoppage time after substitute Sergino Dest was sent off for fouling him in the box.

Mali held on to defeat Ghana 2-1 in today's earlier quarter-final at Indira Gandhi Athletic Stadium in Guwahati.

The Eaglets took the lead on the quarter-hour mark as Hadji Drame broke through before calmly finishing past Ghana goalkeeper Danlad Ibrahim for his third goal of the tournament.

Ghana then had the ball in the opposite net just before half-time, however Ibrahim Sulley’s effort was disallowed for a foul by team-mate Kudus Mohammed in the build-up.

Just after the hour mark, Mali scored their winner through Djemoussa Traore.

He beat Danlad Ibrahim with a long-range effort after the Ghana goalkeeper misjudged his positioning when making an attempted clearance outside his box.

With 20 minutes to go, Ghana halved the deficit through a Mohammed penalty after substitute Sadiq Ibrahim was fouled in the Mali box.

The Eaglets held on to secure a second appearance in the last four at an Under-17 World Cup in as many tournaments.

Mali captain Mohamed Camara will be suspended for the semi-finals, however, after accumulating too many yellow cards.
