Para snowboarder Ben Tudhope will be mentored by Rugby World Cup winner Nick Farr-Jones as he continues his preparations for next year's Winter Paralympic Games in Pyeongchang.

Tudhope has been selected to be part of the Sport Australia Hall of Fame (SAHOF) scholarship and mentoring programme, which aims to inspire the next generation of athletes to achieve at the highest level of their sport.

The 17-year-old from Sydney, who became Australia's youngest Paralympian when he competed in the snowboard cross event at Sochi 2014, is among the favourites to earn a medal in Pyeongchang.

He will receive one-on-one mentoring from Farr-Jones, a member of the SAHOF who captained the Australian team which won the 1991 Rugby World Cup.

"One of the areas I’m very excited about is Nick sharing his thoughts on the mechanisms of being a great athlete, how he coped with and managed competitions," Tudhope said.

"The most important thing for me is I truly love snowboarding.

"Snowboarding is part of my lifestyle and I love being on snow everyday - I don’t know where I would be without it."

Farr-Jones, who made 63 appearances for Australia during his international career, said it was an "absolute privilege" to be mentoring the young snowboarder.

"I’ve been hugely inspired by Ben’s achievements having been in the school winter programme for some years, but it is not so much his achievements at a tender age, but more about his attitude to pushing back against some physical impediments and having an attitude to achieve," he said.

Those who receive the scholarships will be presented by their mentors at the SAHOF Induction and Awards Gala in Melbourne on Thursday (October 12).

Recipients will also be given an expenses grant worth AUD$5,000 (£3,000/$3,900/€3,300) and an international return economy flight.
