The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has called for their controversial World Cup qualifier away to Uganda to be replayed after lodging an official protest to FIFA over refereeing decisions in the match in Kampala.

The GFA filed the protest after South African referee Daniel Bennett ruled out Raphael Dwamena's 93rd minute goal for offside as the match ended in a 0-0 draw.

It cost Ghana a vital three points and effectively ended their chances of securing a place at the 2018 World Cup in Russia.

The GFA were furious with the conduct of the officials and said television replays had shown it was a "perfect goal".

"Mr Bennett and assistants denied Ghana a perfect goal in the 93rd minute with television replays showing that it was a perfect goal," the GFA said in a statement.

"The referee also denied Ghana a penalty earlier in the second half when Ghana midfielder Frank Acheampong was brought down in the box.

"These and several other decisions by the match officials have left the GFA with no option than to ask FIFA to examine their performances.

"The GFA respectfully asked FIFA to consider the possibility of a replay in order to serve the ends of justice without fear or favour."

The result left Ghana third in their four-team African qualifying group with six points from their five matches.

Ghana, who reached the quarter-finals of the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, are now relying on results going their way if they are to book their ticket to Russia.

Only the top team qualify for the World Cup, a place currently occupied by Egypt.

The Egyptians can guarantee their place at the finals in Russia if they beat Congo, who are bottom, later today.

The incident in Ghana's disappointing draw with Uganda at the Mandela National Stadium in Kampala comes after FIFA ordered South Africa's qualifier with Senegal in Polokwane last November to be replayed after match official Joseph Lamptey was banned for life.

Lamptey, who is Ghanaian, was found guilty of unlawfully influencing match results and failed to get his sanction overturned at the Court of Arbitration for Sport.
