Sudan Olympic Committee (SOC) President Hashem Haroun met with the country's leader Omar al-Bashir in Khartoum.

Discussions took place at the Presidential Palace in the country's capital city.

Haroun briefed the Sudanese President on the performance of the governing body and also spoke about preparations for upcoming sporting events.

This includes the Summer Youth Olympic Games in Argentina's capital Buenos Aires next year and the 2018 African Youth Games in Algerian capital Algiers.

According to Haroun, Al-Bashir "lauded" the efforts of the SOC and its role in enhancing sport in the African country.

"The meeting dealt with the needs of the Committee and its obligations to play its role," Albawaba Sports reported.

Sudan sent six athletes to compete at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games in August.

They were represented by three runners, two swimmers and a judoka.

The country's solitary Olympic medal in its history is a silver which came at Beijing 2008.

Ismail Ahmed Ismail finished second in the men's 800 metres in the Chinese capital.
