The United States secured the final gold medal of the 2017 Invictus Games as the multi-sport event came to a close in Toronto.

Wheelchair basketball competition was the focus of attention at the Mattamy Athletics Centre, as the US faced The Netherlands.

The American team would eventually edge out their opponents 55-51 to secure the gold medal.

Britain triumphed in the bronze medal match, as they overcame Denmark 25-14.

The Games concluded with a Closing Ceremony, which was attended by Sophie Gregoire Trudeau, wife of Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.

She presented participation medals to the athletes at the Ceremony.

A total of 550 athletes from 17 countries participated in 12 sports at the Games.

Prince Harry, who founded the Invictus Games in 2014 for wounded or traumatised war veterans, praised the efforts of the participants.

"Right now, you're on a high,” he said, according to the BBC.

"At the summit of a mountain many of you thought was too high to climb.

"You have done it.

"This is the moment, right here, right now, shoulder to shoulder, you are Invictus."

Bruce Springsteen, Bryan Adams and Kelly Clarkson performed at the Ceremony, which also saw the Invictus flag passed to Sydney.

The Australian city was confirmed as the host of the 2018 edition of the event last November.

Prince Harry, who was joined at the Ceremony by his girlfriend Meghan Markle, expressed his desire to continue the Games in the future.

Toronto was the third edition of the multi-sport event, following the inaugural competition in London in 2014 and Orlando in 2016.
