Local firm TFH Hire Services have been appointed as an official supplier of security fencing at the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games.

The company will be responsible for installing almost 22,000 metres of perimeter or security fencing across venues.

"It is great to see local businesses, in this case a family business like TFH, getting on board to support the largest event in Queensland's history," said Gold Coast 2018's general manager for commercial, Cameron Murray.

"From humble beginnings operating out of a small backyard shed, 20 years later TFH are going for gold with Gold Coast 2018."

TFH, whose head office is in Logan in Queensland, now boast 40 branches across Australia.

They started from humble beginnings, where founder Owen Thomas first hired out security dogs and welded together his own fences in his backyard shed, before gradually growing in size.

The firm already have experience in the sports world at motor racing events including the The Nikon Super GT and in horse racing at the Melbourne Cup.

A special event with employees and guests has already taken place to celebrate the announcement.

Action is due to take place at Gold Coast 2018 from April 4 to 18 next year.

"Over the years, TFH Hire has been involved in many exciting and unique events although we recognise Gold Coast 2018 as the most prestigious to date," added Thomas.

"Head office has been based in Logan for more than 20 years. 

"We now have 40 branches nationally including four located in South East Queensland and employ over 500 people.

"We are looking forward to the challenge this event brings and are honoured to assist in showcasing our beautiful city."
