The National Olympic Committee of Ukraine (NOCU) has launched the final of the “Olympic Stork – Olympic moves” sports project for children.

NOCU President Sergey Bubka, the former world pole vault record holder and Seoul 1988 Olympic champion, was in attendance at the Opening Ceremony alongside a number of other Olympic medallists.

The ceremony featured typical aspects such as the raising of flags, the Parade of Nations and oaths taken by an athlete, a coach and an official.

During the week, 350 competitors aged 11 and 12 from across Ukraine will take part in an Olympic-style camp that includes physical exercises, relays, quizzes and mobile games.

The event began in 2011 with assistance from the country's Ministry of Education and Science.

International Olympic Committee TOP Partner and NOCU sponsor "Coca-Cola" also backs the project.

The main goal of the event is to educate children on the values of the Olympic Movement including friendship, mutual respect, solidarity and generosity as well getting youths active.

There are four stages in the programme: in schools across Ukraine first, city competitions second, regional competitions third and then the final.

"We are trying to do our best sharing unique Olympic values among youth" said Bubka.

"It’s important to show them the beauty of sports, to provide with the necessary education and sport experience.

"Health and knowledge are the two key values for all of time."
