Double Olympic champion Nicola Adams has expressed her disappointment after her fight with Alexandra Vlajk in Las Vegas was called off due to her opponent’s pre-fight blood test.

The fight was due to be the third professional bout of Adams' career, which began with a point's victory over Argentina’s Virginia Noemi Carcamo in April.

She then followed up the performance with a technical knock-out win over Mexico’s Maryan Salazar in front of a home crowd in Leeds in May.

The super-flyweight bout with Hungary’s Vlajk was due to be Adams' debut fight in the United States,

It was set to have featured on the undercard of the contest between Mexico’s Saul Alvarez and Gennady Golovkin of Kazakhstan.

“I'm devastated that I'm not boxing tonight, due to a problem with my opponent,” Adams tweeted after the fight was called off.

“Thank you everyone for your support and kind messages.”

Adams became the first female boxer to win Olympic gold when she overcame China's Ren Cancan in the flyweight final in front of a home crowd at London 2012.

The boxer then overcame Sarah Ourahmoune of France in the Rio 2016 final, making her the first British boxer since Harry Mallin at Paris 1924 to retain an Olympic title.

Adams ended her amateur career as Britain's most successful ever female boxer after winning the 51 kilogram world title in Astana last year, beating Thailand's Peamwilai Laopeam in the final in Kazakhstan.

The triumph completed a career grand slam, after she previously won European titles, Commonwealth Games gold and the title at the inaugural European Games in Baku in 2015.

In the headline fight of the evening, Alvarez and Golovkin’s world middleweight title fight ended in a controversial draw at the T-Mobile Arena.
