Rio 2016 Paralympian Muhammad Afiq Afify Rizan claimed two gold medals as host nation Malaysia won all seven gold medals available on the opening day of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Para Games in Kuala Lumpur.

All seven came in cycling on a busy day in the Nilai Velodrome.

Twenty-one-year-old Rizan continued a superb year in which he has already claimed bronze at the World Championships in Los Angeles.

He triumphed in both the kilometres and sprint events in the class B category.

“I am proud [with my performance], because I had indeed targeted gold for both events,” he said afterwards.

Muhammad Amin Najmi Romzi claimed Malaysian silver in both events.

Ng Hang Siew Jesson of Singapore also managed double bronze.

Rizan will now seek to complete a hat-trick in the individual pursuit final tomorrow.

Nur Azlia Syafinaz Mohd Zais also claimed double gold in the two corresponding women's event.

She defeated team-mate Nur Syahida Tajudin in the kilometres competition as Lee Seok Bee Emily of Singapore took bronze.

Roles were reversed in the sprint event as Lee managed silver an Tajudin the bronze.

Zujairie Ahmad Tarmizi earned C5 men's kilometre spoils after defeating Arthus Eustaquio of the Philippines, who took silver, and Sufyan Saori of Indonesia, who managed bronze.

Mohd Najib Turano won the C4 kilometre competition in front of team-mate Muhammad Hafiz Jamali.

Muhammad Fadli Imammuddin of Indonesia secured bronze.

Medal action is due to continue in cycling tomorrow.

It will also begin in the sports of athletics, powerlifting and swimming.
