The International University Sports Federation (FISU) is gearing up to mark the International Day of University Sport on September 20.

With the motto "the campus goes to the city, the city meets with the campus", the day is organised by FISU and is recognised by the United Nations' Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO).

It is seen as "an annual occasion for communities to come together and discover new sports through movement and peerless instruction".

Events are set to take place across the world.

With Estonia taking on the European Union's rotating Council Presidency, the Baltic nation will demonstrate its commitment to the university sport movement with four days focussed on "sport, education and university" in the city of Tartu.

A packed schedule of events will then be followed by the official opening of the third European Week of Sport.

The University of St Gallen in Switzerland will also host an event, with sport demonstrations beginning at eight in the morning.

Papua New Guinea has five events scheduled across the country, in places ranging from the Bava Park Sports Center to Si Ignatius Kilage Stadium and three university campuses.

Eurosport, which is FISU TV's broadcast partner, will be covering the day.

FISU's main goal of focusing its efforts on the promotion of health and wellbeing through sports and physical activities was achieved when more than 8,500 people took part at University Sport Festivals in 2016.
