The trip to the Serbian city was led by FIAS executive director Sergey Tabakov, who met with representatives from the local Organising Committee.

Nearly 500 athletes from 80 countries are expected in Novi Sad for the competition between October 12 and 16, with bouts taking place at the Spens Sports Center.

The venue, which hosted the 2015 European Sambo Championships, was toured by the FIAS party who then visited accommodation in the area.

Tabakov was left impressed with what he saw.

"I know from experience that Novi Sad is a wonderful host of competitions," he said.

"During the inspection we visited the gym, locker rooms, press room and respective rooms which will be used during the competitions. 

"Then we visited the Novi Sad, Aurora and Fisherman's Island hotels, where athletes and officials will be accommodated. 

"The organisation is on the highest level."

The visit coincided with the Serbian qualification tournament for the World Championships.

Tatiana Trivich, the President of the Serbian Sambo Federation, believes her country could win between five to 10 medals on home soil. 

Serbia's current-best sambist, Ivan Yandrich, was also on hand during the inspection.

She is President of the regional sambo federation for Vojvodina, where Novi Sad is the capital.
