The top four seeds all progressed to the men’s singles semi-finals today at the British Open Wheelchair Tennis Championships in Nottingham.

At least one British player will feature in the final as Rio 2016 Paralympic Games champion Gordon Reid and this year’s French Open winner Alfie Hewett both came through their matches unscathed to set up a clash against each other.

Reid required two tiebreaks to reach the semis as the fourth seed saw off Belgian player Joachim Gerard 7-6, 7-6 at the Nottingham Tennis Centre.

Hewett, the second seed, took on France’s Nicolas Peifer and won the first set 7-5.

However, Peifer came back to take the next set 6-1, but Hewett regained control of the match to claim the third 6-2.

Top seed Gustavo Fernandez of Argentina also needed to use all three sets in his 6-2, 0-6, 7-5 victory against Japan’s Shingo Kunieda.

He will meet Stephane Houdet in the semi-finals after the Frenchman defeated Stefan Olsson of Sweden 7-5, 6-2.
