Korellis has co-ordinated the programme, which the EOC claim helps competing athletes embrace the Olympic values of friendship, respect and excellence.

It is only the second time the project has been held at the European Youth Olympic Festival (EYOF) following the pilot scheme, launched during February's winter event in Erzurum.

The 14 young ambassadors have created a special EYOF handshake to help unite athletes who do not speak the same language, while they have also created a Facebook group for athletes to share photos, and an Olympic-focused quiz application.

An EYOF wall, where athletes can write personal messages, has also been created.

"We are delighted with how this programme has worked in Győr," said Korellis.

"The ambassadors have been a credit to their National Olympic Committees and to the EOC. 

"They have been role models to the young athletes and have been crucial to their EYOF experience, bringing an amazing feeling of peace and unity. 

"We are excited to see how this project grows in the future."

There was success for the host nation on the fourth day of competition in the Hungarian city.

Karolina Helga Horváth powered to an impressive win in the under-17 women's 2,000 metres steeplechase by clocking a time of 6min 51.04sec.

Her time was over four seconds quicker than silver medallist Claire Palou of France, while Italy's Assia El Maazi came through to take bronze.

Spain's Sophia Vicente triumphed in the women's long jump with a best effort of 13.72 metres.

Gaëlle Maonzambi of Switzerland did enough for silver and Jessica Kahara of Finland secured bronze.

Gabor Zombori was another Hungarian gold medallist on day four as he won the men's 200m backstroke title in 2:02.17, beating Russian Egor Dolomanov and Mewen Tomac of France, silver and bronze medallists respectively.

Russia were in superb form in the 4x100m medley relays, securing victory in both the men's and women's events.

The Russian team in the men's race touched the wall in a combined 3:43.01, while Israel earned silver and Italy claimed bronze.

Hungary were denied a podium-topping triumph in the women's race as they were second behind Russia, who clocked an overall 4:07.99.

Bronze was sealed by Denmark.

Action at the Summer EYOF in Győr concludes tomorrow.
