France survived a red card and conceding a first half goal to join Austria in progressing from Group C into the quarter-finals of the UEFA Women’s European Championships in The Netherlands today.

Austria, who drew 1-1 with France earlier in the tournament, topped the group after a straightforward 3-0 win over Iceland.

Goals from Sarah Zadrazil, captain Nina Burger and substitute Stefanie Enzinger secured a comfortable victory at the Sparta Stadion Het Kasteel in Rotterdam.

This comes despite them making their tournament debut and, at 24, being the lowest world ranked side in the group.

Austria are now expected to face Group D runners - likely to be either Spain or Portugal - for a place in the last-four.

France, meanwhile, will have to lock horns with the group winners - potentially England.

It came in a nervy encounter at the Rat Verlegh Stadion in Breda after full back Eve Perisset was sent off.

Ana-Maria Crnogorcevic's fine harder put Switzerland into a shock first-half lead.

But Camille Abily's late free-kick brought them level with 14 minutes remaining and saw France progress to the quarter-finals.

England will face Portugal while Scotland take on Spain tomorrow on the final day of group stage action.
