Mexico have confirmed their national team for the World Cadet Championships, which will take place between August 24 to 27 in Egypt.

Under-29 kilogram athlete Sophia Huerta has been selected as a member of the women’s team, along with Eyleen Gongora and Vanessa Gómez Legorreta.

Natalia De la Vega, Vania Celorio, Isabella Mercedes and María Madrigal have also been selected in the team, with the women’s squad completed by America Comonfort, Valeria Charles and Karla Pérez.

The men’s team will include Luis Salazar, Kevin Topete, Angelberto Garcia, Erick Nino and Emilio Cendejas, while they will also be represented by Juan Fernando Nieto, Juan José Patrón and Roberto Sumuano.

Miguel Ángel Hernández and Marco Guluarte will compete in the heavyweight divisions.

The selection was made at the conclusion of an evaluation at the Mexico’s national high performance centre.

"I am happy because there is finally a definite selection that will represent us in the Cadet World Cup, and the quality and enthusiasm they put on I really liked and I think this selection is one of the best that has existed in this category and obviously we expect medals,” said Óscar Salazar, the team coach.

“The boys are very enthusiastic and that always helps to play a good role in this World Cup.

"It ended the week of knowledge, adaptation with athletes and coaches, and there is a next week of work that is a little special work with the team defined and will then be given a week of vacation that will serve to say goodbye to their family and fix your things.

“Then the next concentration will begin on August 6 and from there it is until the World Cup, where the work will be very specific and we have to analyse the strength of each one of them and prepare them with the new regulation, which is very important since it has affected several of those selected.”

Mexico are hopeful of achieving a higher haul of medals than at previous editions of the event.

They secured three bronze medals in Azerbaijan in 2014, while they then sealed one silver and three bronze in South Korea last year.

This year's event will be held in the Sharm El-Sheikh.
