Florian Weidel and Robert Büchel have been appointed as chief executives of the 2021 International Ski Federation (FIS) Nordic World Ski Championships in Oberstdorf.

Both men will play a key role in the preparations for the flagship event at the German resort.

Weidel, a former snowboarder, also became secretary general of Oberstdorf Skisport this month.

This means he will also be responsible for World Cup events at the resort as well as the 2018 FIS Ski Flying Championships, which will be held there.

He studied sports economy at the Sport University of Cologne and worked as product manager for tourism and events at the Swiss ski resort of Flims Laax for 12 years.

Büchel was previously a senior director at marketing agency Lagardère Sports, where he was responsible for skiing events between 2008 and 2012.

He will be in charge of marketing, communications, media, ticketing and tourism for Oberstdorf 2021.

The Nordic World Championships feature the disciplines of cross-country, ski jumping and Nordic combined.

Oberstdorf will be hosting for the third time, after previously staging the event in 1987 and 2005.
