The United States continued their title defence with an emphatic 18-1 win over England at the Federation of International Lacrosse Women’s World Cup today.

It was a third win from three matches for the reigning champions in Group A as they blew away the hosts at the Surrey Sports Park in Guildford.

Elsewhere in the group, Canada beat Scotland 16-7 while Australia comfortably beat Wales 12-4.

In Group B, the Haudenosaunee Native American team recorded their third consecutive win of the tournament.

They racked up an 18-4 victory over Switzerland while, in the same group, six goals in the second period handed Italy a narrow 11-10 win over South Korea.

The biggest result of the day arrived in Group D.

Japan embarrassed Mexico 27-1 after scoring 14 unanswered goals in the first half and 13 in the second, where the Central Americans finally made it onto the score sheet.

Germany also delivered a thumping win after they cruised past Spain 17-3 in the day's opening fixture.

In Group C, the Czech Republic edged The Netherlands 8-4 in a relatively low-scoring game and Belgium thrashed China 17-3.

Two matches also took place in Group E as Ireland defeated Colombia 18-3 while New Zealand brushed aside Sweden 21-4.

Action continues in Guildford tomorrow with further pool stage action.
