Chou Tien Chen continued his progress in the men’s singles at the Badminton World Federation Chinese Taipei Open today as he seeks to defend the title.

The top seed pleased the home crowd at the Taipei Arena in his quarter final against compatriot Lin Yu Hsein.

It took Chou 39 minutes to see off the ninth seed 21-16, 21-15.

He will face Malaysia’s Lee Zii Jia, who defeated Khosit Phetpradab of Thailand 21-19, 21-16, in the semi-finals.

The other last four encounter will see Tzu Wei Wang of Chinese Taipei meet South Korean Jeon Hyeok Jin.

Wang defeated Suppanyu Avihingsanon of Thailand 21-8, 19-21, 21-11 in the quarter-finals while Jeon won 21-13, 18-21, 21-14 against Malaysian player Daren Liew.

In the women’s singles, an all-Japanese semi-final was set up after Saena Kawakami and Natsumi Shimoda won today.

Kawakami beat South Korea’s Na Yeong Kim 21-16, 21-11 and Shimoda earned a 21-19, 21-13 win against home hope Shuo Yun Sung.

Their team-mate Haruko Suzuki also reached the last four with a 21-8, 21-17 victory against Ga Eun Kim of South Korea.

She will play third seed Goh Jin Wei in the semi-finals after the Malaysian won 21-15, 21-17 over Pai Yu Po from the host nation.
