All of the athletes will be able to feature at the IAAF World Under-18 Championships due to take place in Nairobi in Kenya from July 12 to 16 while the Russian Athletics Federation (RusAF) remains banned from international athletics competitions.

Their suspension came into place in 2015 following a World Anti-Doping Agency report into doping in the country.

The IAAF Doping Review Board, composed of chairman Robert Hersh, Sylvia Barlag and Antti Pihlakoski, has accepted the applications, although the participation of the nine athletes is still subject to formal processes being completed.

The athletes cleared to compete in Nairobi are Aksana Gataullinain in the pole vault, race walkers Ekaterina Gorshenina, Salavat Ilkaev, Elvira Khasanova, Sergey Kozhevnikov and Polina Miller, sprinter Varvara Nasibulina, middle-distance runner Danila Tundykov and high jumper Valentina Ulyanova.

"I’d like to thank the members of the Doping Review Board for their continued dedication and diligence in this ongoing review process," said IAAF President Sebastian Coe.

"This process is about our desire to support the hopes and aspirations of all clean athletes, including Russian athletes of all ages, who have been failed by their national system.

"I am delighted these nine athletes will get a chance to compete as neutral athletes in these championships and we will ensure they have the support network they require to compete to the best of their ability."

In total this year, according to the IAAF, 22 applications from Russian athletes seeking neutral status have been approved and 45 rejected.

On June 13, following the latest inspection visit by the IAAF Taskforce, the RusAF President Dmitry Shlyakhtin expressed confidence that more athletes from his country would be declared eligible to compete internationally as neutrals by July.

Since the publication of updated guidelines under Rule 22.1A(b) earlier this year, the IAAF has received more than 130 applications from Russian athletes.

More than 40 of these have been endorsed by RusAF.

"A number of these applications remain under review by the Doping Review Board in accordance with the guidelines while stored samples continue to be re-analysed and the athletes referenced in the Independent Person's report published last December continue to be assessed in consultation with experts," the IAAF said.

"This being an ongoing process, the IAAF will only make announcements as and when decisions are made by the Doping Review Board concerning successful applications and those athletes have been duly informed."
