Full International Skating Union (ISU) has been granted to five of the organisation’s members with immediate effect.

The governing body stated that the Kyrgyzstan, Liechtenstein and Moldovan skating federations have been granted full membership of their figure skating branch during a ISU Council meeting in Dutch capital Amsterdam.

Indonesia have received membership from both the figure and speed skating branches, while both Qatar and the Philippines respective federations have been recognised by the speed skating branch.

The Philippine Skating Union is already a full member of the figure skating branch of the ISU.

As well as the full status, the ISU have also confirmed that the Skating Federation of Macedonia have been awarded provisional membership for the figure skating branch.

The ISU Council also announced the appointment of the Netherlands’ Marieke Becker as the medical advisor in the Medical Commission.

She will start at the beginning of the 2017-2018 season, with Becker replacing Harm Kuipers in the position.

Kuipers retired from the role at the end of last season.

Poland’s Luiza Zlotkowska, the speed skating representative, will act as the vice-chair.

The Commission includes Turkey’s Alper Uçar as ice dance representative, while Sweden’s Nathalie Lindqvist stood unopposed as the synchronised skating athlete after Russia’s Daria Rakhvalskaia stepped aside from the vote.

The short track speed skating athlete vote was won by Hungary’s Viktor Knoch at the World Championships held in Rotterdam in March.
