Beijing 2022 have put forward staging events in an area of the city which is currently being renovated, located in the Shijingshan district.

It is close to the site of a new building, which is currently being constructed as part of the Organising Committee’s headquarters.

The big air plans still require the approval of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and are now likely to be discussed in further detail.

The Organising Committee building and surrounding area is being regenerated from an old steel mill, which was closed and moved outside of Beijing because of concerns over pollution.

All of the other snowboarding events at the 2022 Winter Olympics are scheduled to be staged at the Genting Ski Resort in Zhangjiakou in Hebei Province, around 160 kilometres from Beijing.

Big air was added to the Olympic programme for next year's Games in Pyeongchang in June 2015.

The event, a part of the International Ski Federation (FIS) Snowboard World Championships since 2003, is a discipline where the competitor rides their snowboard down a hill and perform tricks after launching off very large jumps.

Competitors perform complex tricks in the air, aiming to attain sizable height and distance as well, all while securing a clean landing. 

“I think this is a great idea to create a new sports area in this industrial park and I think it will be one of the nicest venues,” Zhukov, the President of the Russian Olympic Committee (ROC), said here.

“I think big air will be very popular for the people of Beijing and we support this idea.”

Zhukov led the Coordination Commission delegation on the tour of venues which are set to be used for the Games in Beijing, the host city for the 2008 Summer Olympics.

Should the big air plans be accepted, the event will join curling, ice hockey and the various skating disciplines in being staged in the capital city.

Members of the Coordination Commission visited the site for the National Speed Skating Oval, the only venue being built from scratch in Beijing.

They also toured the Wukesong Sports Centre, the home of basketball at Beijing 2008 which will host women's ice hockey.

A trip to the Capital Indoor Stadium, the venue for volleyball in 2008 and is due to house figure skating and short track speed skating, was also completed.

Zhukov claimed using existing facilities from the 2008 Games was one of the stand-out parts of the city's hosting plans.

"Using the old facilities and using the sports centres from Beijing 2008 is one of the main ideas of this Olympic Games," the ROC head added.

"I think it is a good idea that the Organising Committee is going to use all of these sports facilities for Beijing 2022."

IOC Executive Board member CK Wu was full of praise for the infrastructure in Beijing following the visit.

The International Boxing Association President told insidethegames the venues on offer in the Chinese capital were "first-class" and would provide great benefits to the region.

The Coordination Commission members are expected to meet Cai Qi, the newly-appointed President of Beijing 2022 after he replaced Guo Jinlong on Friday (June 9), later this evening.

A full day of meetings between the IOC and Beijing 2022 is planned tomorrow, before the second inspection visit concludes with the closing press conference.

IOC Athletes' Commission chairperson Angela Ruggiero and Vladimir Smirnov, a former cross-country skier, are the only two absentees.
