Indian-based motorcycle and scooter manufacturer Hero MotoCorp have been named as the title sponsor of this year's men's Hockey World League (HWL) semi-final in London.

The International Hockey Federation (FIH) confirmed the company, whose headquarters are in New Delhi, would perform the role for the tournament at the Lee Valley Hockey and Tennis Centre on the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park next month.

The competition, due to run from June 15 to 25, serves as a qualifier for the 2018 Hockey World Cup in India.

"We are pleased to secure Hero MotoCorp as title sponsor," FIH chief executive Jason McCracken said.

"Their investment will provide them with exposure to millions of hockey fans across the world who will be following, both online and on TV, their nation’s bid to qualify for the 2018 Hockey World Cup.

"This is yet another important partnership facilitated by FIH as we continue to drive the marketing and commercial value of hockey.

"Hero MotoCorp’s continued commitment to our sport provides further evidence of FIH securing commercial partners who share our vision for developing the sport, outlined as a key initiative in our 10-year Hockey Revolution strategy.”

Olympic gold medallists Argentina, hosts England, China, Malaysia and South Korea comprise Pool A at the tournament.

European champions The Netherlands go up against India, Pakistan, Scotland and Canada in Pool B.

The HWL, along with the Champions Trophy, has been axed from the FIH’s calendar from 2018 onwards in favour of a new home and away competition, which will come into effect in 2019.

"We are delighted that Hero MotoCorp has once again invested in our sport, continuing our long-term, positive relationship which has made a significant contribution to the development of the sport globally," FIH President Narinder Batra said.

"We are grateful for their ongoing support and sponsorship which has now extended over many years.”
