Russia’s Sergey Kamenskiy overcame his compatriot Vladimir Maslennikov in the men’s 10 metre air rifle final by producing a world record performance at the International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) World Cup in Munich.

Kamenskiy, who won 50m rifle three positions silver at Rio 2016, would face a stiff task of fighting off Maslennikov for the gold medal.

The lead would exchange hands on several occasions during the final, with Kamenskiy eventually opening up an advantage heading into the final rounds.

Kamenskiy sealed the victory by ending with a total of 250.9 points, bettering the previous record of 250.5, which was set by Maslennikov in March.

The European champion was forced to settle for the silver medal on an impressive total of 250.4.

The podium was completed by Belarus’ Vitali Bubnovich, with the Baku 2015 European Games gold medallist ending on 228.9.

“It has been a tough competition,” Kamenskiy said

“It has been really hot through the competition day here in Munich, it has been intense.

“I am so happy that I made it to the first place, and that I get to share the podium with my teammate Vladimir.

“He did a great job today.”

The World Cup will continue tomorrow with the men’s 50m and women’s 25m pistol finals.
