Denis Masseglia was declared the winner of a third term as President of the French National Olympic and Sports Committee (CNOSF) - although he may face an appeal over the result.

Masseglia held off his two rivals – Isabelle Lamour, President of the French Fencing Federation (FFE), and David Douillet, the double Olympic judo champion and former Sports Minister – to win on the first round of voting.

The 69-year-old secured 56 per cent of the vote against 39 per cent for Lamour and five per cent for Douillet.

But, in the immediate aftermath of the vote, Lamour, who is married to double Olympic fencing champion and former Sports Minister Jean-François Lamour, was said to be considering an appeal.

According to French media, Lamour said she was unhappy with the "completely unacceptable conditions" in which the vote took place, claiming Masseglia was allowed to speak to the Ordinary General Assembly before the count.

"We were told at the grand oral on April 25 that no one would speak again," she said.

"I wanted to tell you that, for my part, I will ask for an appeal with regard to the holding of this election excessively important."

However, despite Lamour's suggestions she will appeal, the CNOSF posting a message on Twitter saying Masseglia was the winner of the election.

A former President of the French Rowing Federation (FFSA), Masseglia has headed the CNOSF since 2009.

His re-election would afford some continuity ahead of the arrival on Sunday of the International Olympic Committee (IOC)’s Evaluation Commission to conduct their inspection of the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic bid.

Following the withdrawal of three other candidates, Paris now faces only one rival, Los Angeles, in a race scheduled to culminate in September at the IOC Session in Lima.

Paris 2024 also tweeting their congratulations to Masseglia, saying: "Congratulations to D. Masseglia for his reelection @FranceOlympique.

"Happy to continue to work together to bring the Games to #Paris2024!"

The CNOSF vote came just four days after Emmanuel Macron defeated the National Front's Marine Le Pen in the French Presidential election.

President-elect Macron is expected to meet Evaluation Commission members after his inauguration, also on Sunday.
