Defending champions Australia will take on local rivals New Zealand in the International Hockey Federation (FIH) Hockey World League Semi-Final in Johannesburg.

Australia, who are also the Champions Trophy and Hockey World Cup champions, were placed alongside New Zealand in Pool A of the men’s competition.

The teams will be joined by Spain, Japan and France in the pool, after the schedule was finalised by the FIH.

Rio 2016 silver medallists Belgium will take on Germany, reigning African champions South Africa, Ireland and Egypt in Pool B.

Olympic champions Britain will feature in Pool A of the women’s competition, with Rio 2016 bronze medallists Germany providing opposition in the group.

Japan, Ireland and Poland will also be aiming to make an impact in the competition.

Pool B consists of defending champions Argentina, along with India and Chile.

Reigning Pan American champions United States and South Africa, the current African champions, complete the line-up.

Competition is set to take place between July 8 to 23 at the Wits Hockey Club in Johannesburg.

Four Pool matches will be contested daily until their conclusion on July 17, when the quarter-final spots will be decided.

The last eight matches will take place on July 19 and 20, with semi-final clashes being held the following two days.

Action will conclude with both the men’s and women’s finals and third place play-offs on July 23.

The second women’s Hockey World League Semi-Final is taking place in Brussels in June, with hosts Belgium being joined by Australia, China, the Netherlands, New Zealand and South Africa.

Italy, Malaysia, Scotland and Spain have also qualified.

The top seven nations across the two semi-finals will advance to the Hockey World League Final in India.

England will stage the second men’s semi-final, with Argentina, India, the Netherlands, Pakistan and South Korea having all qualified through their world ranking.

Canada, China, Malaysia and Scotland will also participate in the event between June 15 and 25 in London.
