China's Lin Dan comfortably beat top seed Lee Chong Wei of Malaysia in straight games to reach the final of the Badminton Asia Championships in Wuhan today.

The two-time Olympic gold medallist, seeded fourth for the tournament at the Wuhan Sports Center Gymnasium, made light work of the Malaysian player, who was beaten in the final of the men's final at Rio 2016 by Lin's team-mate Chen Long.

Lin set up a meeting with compatriot Chen as he swept aside Lee 21-13, 21-15 in 52 minutes.

"I'm so proud that the match between Lee and me can always attract numerous attentions from fans and media around the world," he said.

"We are now 34 and 35 years old, but we can still remain in the top level of men's singles. 

"I think that needs more efforts from us."

Olympic champion Chen booked his place in the tournament's showpiece match by dispatching another Chinese player, Shi Yuqi, 21-19, 21-15 in their semi-final clash.

In the women's singles draw, top seed Tai Tzu Ying of Chinese Taipei safely progressed to the final as she beat Jang Mi Lee of South Korea 21-8, 21-16.

Tai will take on Japan's Akane Yamaguchi, the second seed, for the Asia Championships title.

Yamaguchi was also in good form as she took just 43 minutes to earn a 21-15, 21-19 victory over China's He Bingjiao, who overcame Olympic silver medallist PV Sindhu yesterday.

Olympic gold medallist Carolina Marin of Spain sealed her berth in the final of the women's singles final of the European Badminton Championships at the Sydbank Arena in Kolding in Denmark.

The top seed overcame Denmark's Mette Poulsen, seeded fifth, 21-17, 21-12.

The Spaniard will go up against seventh seed Kirsty Gilmour of Scotland, who continued her surprise run at the tournament by beating Switzerland's Sabrina Jaquet 22-20, 21-10.

There was a surprise in the men's semi-finals as fifth seed Anders Antonsen of Denmark beat team-mate Viktor Axelsen, the top seed and Olympic bronze medallist, 21-17, 21-16.

His opponent in tomorrow's final will be England's Rajiv Ouseph, who dropped the opening game of his clash with Denmark's Hans-Kristian Vittinghus before recovering to clinch a 18-21, 23-21, 21-16.

The Pan American Championship is also underway at the Coliseo Ciudad Deportiva Tape in Havana.

Men's singles fourth seed Osleni Guerrero of Cuba delighted the home crowd as he knocked out Bjorn Seguin of the United States, the second seed, with a 21-14, 21-13 success.

Top seed Ygor Coelho of Brazil is also through after he swept aside Cuba's Leodannis Martinez 21-6, 21-18.
