The Olympic Committee of Israel (OCI) hosted students from the Achva School in the city of Tayibe to mark the International Day of Sport for Development and Peace.

Participating students were given a tour of the Olympic Experience project, located in Tel Aviv, while they were also treated to a lecture by Loris Ofra, an elite karate athlete from the Arab sector who lives in Akko.

The visitors to the OCI headquarters were given a presentation in Arabic about a healthy lifestyle as part of an initiative dedicated to Olympism.

It can be found in almost 100 schools across the country and has so far been exposed to 10,000 people.

The International Day of Sport for Development and Peace "recognises sport's universality and its power to drive social change and promote a culture of peace".

National Olympic Committees across the world marked the day with celebrations and events.

International Federations also supported the day by attending the Peace and Sport booth at the SportAccord Convention in Aarhus in Denmark, and by taking photographs as part of the #WhiteCard campaign.

This invites people to take pictures of themselves with white cards, before sharing them on social media.

This year's theme was "Show us where you Play your Peace".

Peace and Sport's Champions for Peace ambassadors, including Russia's pole vaulter Yelena Isinbayeva, also held events to mark the day and the #WhiteCard initiative.

Israel secured two medals at last year's Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, with both coming in judo.

Yarden Gerbi won bronze in the women's 63kg competition, while Or Sasson also finished on the podium in the men's over 100kg event.
