Optus have been named as the official support network of Gold Coast 2018 with the company set to provide communications infrastructure and other services.

The telecommunications firm have also been confirmed as a sponsor of Commonwealth Games Australia (CGA).

Under the terms of the agreement, Optus will deliver digital connectivity for 6,600 athletes and team officials at the Games. 

They will support 3,500 members of the media and cumulative broadcast services, who will help to take the Games to 1.5 billion viewers worldwide.

"It needs to be delivered on time, take advantage of efficient solutions and be consistently reliable.

"Optus understands the unique nature of delivering major events with multiple stakeholders to deliver innovative and dependable technology and communications solutions.

"Having a well-known national brand like Optus join the Gold Coast 2018 sponsor family with just a year until the Games provides further support to the ever-growing commercial programme."

As part of their sponsorship, Optus will enjoy a range of benefits including event branding and activation opportunities throughout Gold Coast 2018.

They will work on the largest Games projects, with 90 Optus technicians set to work across 30 locations.

This includes the 18 competition venues for Gold Coast 2018.

Optus already act as a sponsor of the Australian Olympic team.

The Star, Griffith University and Tafe are all official partners of Gold Coast 2018, with KPMG, MinterEllison, Seek, Tickettek, Atos, Aggreko and Hard Yakka all official supporters.

Centium Softwatre, GPY&R, MediaCom, GL events, ExpoNet, Tourism Australia, Rapiscan Systems, Diadora and Thrifty are all official suppliers of the Games.
