P.V Sindhu partially avenged her defeat to Carolina Marin in last year's Olympic final as she delighted the home crowd by winning the Badminton World Federation (BWF) India Super Series title in New Delhi.

The 21-year-old, who became an instant hero in her native country after she claimed the silver medal despite her loss to Marin at Rio 2016, produced a superb display on her way to recording a 21-19, 21-16 victory.

The Indian player was able to harness the energy of the partisan support as she wrapped up a hard-fought win in 47 minutes at the Siri Fort Indoor Stadium.

In the men's singles final, Denmark's Viktor Axelsen, seeded third, made light work of Taiwan's seventh seed Chou Tien Chen as he topped the podium by virtue of a 21-13, 21-10 success.

The result marked the first time the 23-year-old Dane had lifted the BWF India Super Series title.

Both the women's doubles and mixed doubles finals went the distance on a dramatic final day.

Second-seeded Chinese pair Lu Kai and Huang Yaqiong got the better of compatriots Zheng Siwei and Chen Qingchen after fighting back from a game down to win 22-24, 21-14, 21-17 in the mixed doubles.

The women's equivalent also proved to be a fascinating contest as Shiho Tanaka and Koharu Yonemoto ousted Naoko Fukaman and Kurumi Yonao in an all-Japanese affair.

Like their Chinese counterparts in the previous match, they had to come from behind before they sealed a 16-21, 21-19, 21-10 victory.

The showpiece encounter in the men's doubles tournament also involved two teams from the same nation as Indonesia's Marcus Fernaldi Gideon and Kevin Sanjaya Sukamuljo beat team-mates Ricky Karandasuwari and Angga Pratama 21-11, 21-15 in less than half an hour.
