Rio 2016 Olympic trampoline gold medallist Uladzislau Hancharou won the best male athlete prize at the National Olympic Committee of the Republic of Belarus (NOC RB) Triumph Heroes of Sport awards.

Hancharou won gold in the men's individual competition in the Brazilian city, narrowly defeating the Chinese duo of Dong Dong and Gao Lei in the final.

The 21-year-old also won two gold medals at the 2016 European Championships in Valladolid in Spain.

He claimed the individual title before doubling his tally with the synchronised gold alongside Mikalai Kazak.

The best coach prize was given to Volha Ulasava, the head coach of Hancharou.

The best female athlete award was given to biathlete Darya Domracheva.

She topped the overall rankings of the International Biathlon Union World Cup in the 2014-15 season, but could not compete in the next campaign after suffering from mononucleosis.

Domracheva returned this season and currently sits in 31st place after amassing 220 points.

The best team prize was won by the women's K4 500 metres canoe sprint crew of Marharyta Makhneva, Maryna Litvinchuk, Volha Khudzenka and Nadzeya Liapeshka, who won bronze at Rio 2016.

Only female competitors from the country could compete at the Games following alleged doping offences, with a one-year ban imposed on the Belarus men's team by the International Canoe Federation (ICF).

Rio 2016 silver medallist Maryia Mamashuk won the breakthrough award.

Mamashuk lost in the final of the women's 63-kilograms freestyle wrestling competition against Risako Kawai of Japan in the Brazilian city, to become the first wrestling medallist from the country.

The "will to win" award was handed to swimmer Ihar Boki after he won six golds and one bronze at the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games.

Boki, who also won five golds at London 2012, was victorious in the 50 metres butterfly, 50m freestyle, 100m freestyle, 100m backstroke, 200m individual medley and 400m freestyle S13 events.

He also finished third in the 100m breaststroke S13 final.

It was the fifth edition of the awards ceremony.

In 2008, organisers changed how often the ceremonies take place.

They are now held every two years, to include the results of each Olympic and Paralympic Games.
