The Chinese diver scored a day-high tally of 106.40 with his last dive to win the men's three metre springboard competition in front of Britain's Jack Laugher.

Laugher had built up an early lead but Xie clinched the title with a score of 556.20.

The Briton had to make do with silver on 529.05 with China's Yuan Cao winning bronze on 519.80.

"Jack was the leader while I made a mistake with my third dive, so I had no expectation on the medal," said Xie.

"I concentrated on my own dives. 

"I was glad that my last dive helped me to win the gold which is my first victory at an individual event in the World Series. 

"I really appreciate my rivals."

Three days of competition were held in Guangzhou with China continuing their domination of world diving by winning all ten events.

In the women's 3m springboard, Tingmao Shi topped the pile on 395.40 as her compatriot Yani Chang finished on 360.60 for silver.

Maddison Keeney of Australia tallied 357.00 and won bronze.

In 10m platform competition, Yajie Si scored 418.10 to edge team-mate Qian Ren who finished on 413.00 in second place in the women's competition.

Kuk Hyang Kim of North Korea clinched a distant bronze on 372.15.

The men's crown was won by Aisen Chen who scored 601.15 as he dominated the field.

Britain's Tom Daley bagged silver on 531.45 as Hao Yang won another Chinese medal with bronze, totalling 526.65.

In synchro competition, the men's 3m title went to Xie and Cao who totalled 466.02.

Laugher and Chris Mears won the silver medal on 450.60 as Evgeni Kuznetsov and Ilia Zakharov scored 430.86 for Russian bronze.

Shi won the women's 3m synchro title alongside Zhihuan Xu, scoring 345.00.

Keeney and Anabelle Smith earned Australian silver with 318.66 as Jennifer Abel and Melissa Citrini Beaulieu clinched bronze on 311.34 for Canada.

In the 10m platform synchro, Chen and Yang teamed up to win gold with a big total of 463.71.

Germany secured silver as Sascha Klein and Patrick Hausding recorded 437.94, while Russia's Viktor Minibaev and Aleksandr Bondar took bronze on 492.03.

The women's title went to Qian and partner Yani Chang who scored a total of 347.82.

North Koreans Kuk and Kim Mi Rae won silver on 339.72 with bronze going to Jun Hoong Cheong and Pandelela Pamg of Malaysia on 332.46.

China also won both mixed synchro titles.

The 10m title went to Junjie Lian and Jie Lian who tallied a winning score of 355.08.

Mexicans Viviana del Angel Peniche and Randal Valdez Willars scored 339.30 to win silver and Australians Taneka Kovchenko and Domonic Bedggood scored 321.60 for bronze.

In the 3m event, Han Wang and Li Zhen were given a total of 333.00 for gold.

Canada's Abel and Francois Imbeau-Dulac won silver with 326.16 as Keeney and Bedggood won bronze on 324.66.
