The Swedes defeated Scotland 9-6 to reach the gold medal match but the Scots started the game brighter, posting one point in the first end.

Sweden then took two points in the second end before stealing three points in the third for a 5-1 lead.

After the break, the teams traded scores of two, meaning that Sweden had a 9-6 advantage going into the tenth end.

Scotland conceded with two stones left, handing Sweden the victory.

“It feels absolutely fantastic to win the first game and already be ready for the final," said Swedish skip Isabella Wranaa.

"We had one doubt in the semi-final at the World Juniors before, and we’ve always ended up fourth.

"It feels great to be in the final.

"I just think we have to rest and recharge and get some positive energy for the final game.”

Scotland will now contest tomorrow's semi-final against Canada after they defeated hosts South Korea 7-5 today.

The US were the first team through to the final of the men's competition as they overcame South Korea 7-5 this evening.

After blanking the first end the hosts opened the scoring in the second with a single point.

The Americans responded with a single point of their own in the third end before the Koreans nudged ahead once again with two points in the fourth for a 3-1 lead.

After that the US began to dominate, scoring three in the fifth end and stealing two in the sixth when Korean skip Ki Jeong Lee missed a take-out attempt.

They collected a single steal in the seventh to notch a 7-3 lead.

In response, South Korea could only score one point in the eighth end which brought the scoring to a close.

“This is pretty unbelievable," said American skip Andrew Stopera.

"If you told me that we were going to the gold medal game we’d take it in a heartbeat, obviously anyone would.

"You know it’s good to win a medal but we have a lot more work to do."

South Korea will now play in tomorrow's semi-final against Scotland, who took an extra end to beat Norway by 8-7 today.
