Rio 2016 Olympic champion Tina Trstenjak and silver medallist Clarisse Agbegenou will resume their rivalry when the International Judo Federation (IJF) Dusseldorf Grand Prix begins in Germany tomorrow.

After Slovenia's Trstenjak won the Olympic final in Brazil in August, the two judoka met again in the women's under-63 kilogram gold medal bout at the season opening Paris Grand Slam this month.

It was the same result with France's Agbegenou again defeated, but the pair could clash again at the Mitsubishi Electric Halle.

In the women's under-57kg competition, Mongolia's Rio 2016 silver medallist Sumiya Dorjsuren will be one to watch while at under-70kg Paris Grand Slam winner Chizuru Arai is the only member of Japan's 21-strong team in Germany who also fought in the French capital.

The first Grand Prix competition of the season will also see particular interest in the men's under-60kg division with world champion and Rio 2016 silver medallist Yeldos Smetov poised to compete.

The Kazah took silver in Dusseldorf last year but will be expecting better this time around.

Rio 2016 bronze medallist and London 2012 Olympic champion Lasha Shavdatuashvili of Georgia leads the under-73kg field, with Paris winner Frank De Wit of The Netherlands poised to impress at under-81kg.

Grand Prix competitions will take on added significance this season with a gold medal now worth 700 points in the world rankings.

This is up from 300 with the aim of boosting the standard of entries.

Action will begin tomorrow and conclude on Sunday (February 25).
