Rio 2016 Paralympic gold medallist Gordon Reid beat France's Nicolas Peifer today to complete the successful defence of his singles crown at the ABN AMRO World Wheelchair Tennis Tournament in Dutch city Rotterdam.

The second seed triumphed 6-2, 6-1 over his European counterpart, who claimed the doubles title alongside compatriot Stephane Houdet yesterday.

Reid's victory follows wins over fellow Briton Alfie Hewett in the quarter-finals and Argentina's Gustavo Fernandez in the penultimate round.

The wheelchair tennis event in Rotterdam was organised by retired Dutch player Esther Vergeer, who won four consecutive women's singles Paralympic gold medals from Sydney 2000 to London 2012.

"I'm happy with this title in this great tournament organised by Esther Vergeer," said Reid.

"The integration of wheelchair tennis in this tournament is outstanding.

"I hope that this will happen in more tournaments in the future."
