Kristana Kuskova powered to victory in the girls' race, held over 7.5 kilometres, as she clocked a time of 19min 13.3sec.

Kuskova led home a one-two from the Russian team as Elena Kucheva took silver but she was over 10 seconds adrift of her compatriot.

Josefiina Book of Finland secured the bronze medal.

In the 10km boys' race, Andrei Nekrasov crossed the line in first place having finished the course in 21:37.3.

Finland added another medal to their collection as Petteri Koivisto came through to take silver, although he never looked like catching the dominant Russian.

Nekrasov's team-mate Andrei Kuznetsov was the recipient of the bronze medal.

Alex Vintarez clinched Italy's first title of the event in the Turkish city as he topped the podium in the boys' giant slalom race with a time of 2:10.06.

Turo Torvinen was 0.43sec slower than the Italian out on the Palandöken Avea Slope, while Vintarez's compatriot Giovanni Zarraro did enough for the bronze.

Biathlon events also provided thrilling competition on day two of the Winter EYOF, which is being broadcast on the Olympic Channel, as Vitezslav Horinig of the Czech Republic emerged victorious in the boys' 7.5km sprint.

Amid tricky conditions, Horinig went around the course in 19:46.9, with Kristo Siimer of Estonia claiming silver and Russian Mikhail Pervushin sealing bronze.

The girls' 6km sprint was won by Camille Bened of France in a time of 17:42.02 at Kandilli Nordic Center.

Ukrainian Khrystyna Dmytrenko took silver and Russia added to their medal haul thanks to Anastasia Shevchenko's bronze.

"This is my first Olympic competition and I am so happy to win it," said Bened.

Romane Dieu was another athlete to deliver gold for France as she reigned supreme in the girls' normal hill ski jumping competition with a total of 223.7 points.

Nika Kriznar of Slovenia, one of the most successful ski jumping nations, earned silver on 211.8 and team-mate Katra Komar secured bronze.

Slovenia did top the podium today as Timi Zajc scored 261.3 points in the boys' competition.

He finished in front of French duo Jonathan Learoyd and Mathis Contamine, silver and bronze medallists respectively.

The event in Erzurum continues tomorrow.
