Japan’s Takuya Miki and home favourite Maikel Scheffers booked their place in the semi-finals of the doubles competition at the ABN AMRO World Wheelchair Tennis Tournament in Dutch city Rotterdam today after beating France’s Frederic Cattaneo and South Africa’s Evans Maripa.

Miki and Scheffers triumphed 7-6, 6-3 to set up a last-four clash with top-seeded French duo Stephane Houdet and Nicolas Peifer, who have received a bye into the penultimate round.

Also automatically through to the semi-finals are second-seeded paring Gustavo Fernandez of Argentina and Alfie Hewett of Great Britain.

Next up for them is an encounter with The Netherlands’ Tom Egberink and Britain’s Gordon Reid after they overcame Spanish duo Daniel Caverzaschi and Martin De La Puente 6-0, 6-4.

Singles action is due to begin tomorrow in Rotterdam.

Houdet is the top seed, while Reid is ranked second as he seeks to successfully defend the title he won last year.

Both have been given byes to the quarter-finals with Egberink and Maripa vying to meet Houdet, and Hewett and Miki bidding to face Reid.

Matches are being played on special wheelchair courts at the Sports Plaza venue.
