Masters made history as the first American to win the race as she beat Germany’s Andrea Eskau and Belarus’ Lidziya Hrafeyeva, silver and bronze medallists respectively.

"I am speechless, I do not know what to say," the 27-year-old said.

"Anything can happen, this is a tricky course to make any kind of moves. 

"I am so happy for the way I skied. 

"I do not know how I am going to celebrate."

In the men's cross-country sprint sitting, Maksym Yarovyi of Ukraine successfully defended his world title as he held off the challenge of American Andrew Soule, who had to settle for the silver medal.

Norway's Paralympic bronze medallist Trygve Steinar finished third.

Yarovyi was one of three Ukrainian athletes to top the podium on the second day of the competition as Liudmyla Liashenko sprang a big shock in the women’s standing, overcoming team-mate and pre-race favourite Oleksandra Kononova.

Liashenko had too much pace for the defending world champion, who took silver, while Iryna Bui wrapped up the Ukrainian podium sweep with bronze.

Ihor Reptyukh sealed his third world crown by reigning supreme in the men's standing race.

Poland's Witold Skupien did enough for silver, with Reptyukh’s compatriot Grygorii Vovchynskii claiming bronze.

Sweden's four-time Paralympic medallist Zebastian Modin, guided by Johannes Andersson, won the men's visually impaired event in front of Ukraine's Iurii Utkin with guide Ruslan Perekhoda.

Bronze was secured by Thomas Clarion of France and his guide Antoine Bollet.

Austria’s Carina Edlinger claimed the final medal of the day as she powered to victory along with guide JJ Edlinger in the women's visually impaired.

Ukraine's cross-country World Cup overall leader Oksana Shyshkova took silver, with Belarus’ Sviatlana Sakhanenka earning bronze.

A rest day is scheduled for tomorrow before the World Para Nordic Ski Championships continue with biathlon races on Tuesday (February 14).
