Switzerland's Alex Fiva raced to his third International Ski Federation (FIS) Ski Cross World Cup win of the season at Idre in Sweden. 

The 31-year-old backed up his successes in Val Thorens and Watles by leading home compatriot Marc Bischofberger for a Swiss 1-2 in the big final.

Russia's Igor Omelin came third to finish on the podium for the first time this season, with France's Jean Frederic Chapuis fourth.

Olympic champion Chapuis was searching for his sixth victory of the season as he bids to win the overall World Cup title for the third year in a row.

He now leads this season's standings with 719 points, with Fiva second on 604.

Canada's Brady Leman finished ninth today and is third overall on a tally of 516.

In the women's competition, Sandra Naeslund claimed victory on home snow for a second World Cup win this season.

She led home Australia's Sami Kennedy-Sim as Austria's Katrin Ofner came third.

Norway's Marte Hoeie Gjefsen was the skier to miss the podium from the quartet in the big final.

Canada's overall World Cup leader Marielle Thompson won the small final to finish fifth, and has 665 points in the standings.

Naeslund's success means she has cut the gap, with the Swede now second on 550.

Heidi Zacher of Germany, eighth today, is third overall on 545.

The second competitions for men and women will take place tomorrow.
