A new tournament to be held in South Africa has been confirmed by the Professional Squash Association (PSA).

The Bull Ring Open Squash Championships are due to take place at the Wanderers Club in Johannesburg between May 1 and 6 as part of the PSA World Tour.

With a tournament prize fund of R300,000 (£17,800/$22,400/€20,900), it will be the biggest squash event ever held in a southern African nation.

Top professionals from the host country are set to feature at the competition alongside other players from the World Tour.

Alongside the men’s and women’s contests, there will also be masters and junior sections at the championship.

“We are ecstatic to be hosting this prestigious event here at the Wanderers club,” said Bull Ring Squash chief executive Leon Gelderblom.

“What we hope will make this event different and exciting to both the players and spectators is that there really is a category for every player.

“We are looking forward to meeting all of the players and wish them all the best for the inaugural Bull Ring Open.”
