Katarzyna Rusin of Poland was too strong for the rest of the field as she claimed the gold medal in the women's snowboard slopestyle event at the 2017 Winter Universiade here in Almaty today.

Rusin, who studies at the University of Barcelona, could only manage a score of 55.00 in the second run.

However, the damage had been done with her first attempt as her primary score of 82.25 clinched the gold medal.

It was the culmination of an emphatic day for the 23-year-old who also topped the qualification standings this morning with a score of 78.25.

Amber Arazny of Australia took the silver on 75.00 while Anastasiia Loginova of Russia completed the podium with her best score of 70.50.

Mikhail Matveev of Russia then took the gold medal in the men's slopestyle event shortly after.

His best score of 94.50 points proved to be too good for the rest of the field.

Unlike Rusin, Matveev produced his best effort in his second run, with his opening score of 90.25 paling into insignificance after his second attempt.

Aleksi Partanen of Finland took silver on 90.25 while the Czech Republic's Martin Mikyska completed the podium after his score of 87.75 in the second run.
