Sara Takanashi’s return to form continued today as she won her second consecutive International Ski Federation (FIS) Ski Jumping World Cup victory.

The Japanese skier topped the podium for the first time in six attempts last Sunday (January 29) in Rasnov, Romania, and she was a class apart again in the Austrian resort of Hinzenbach.

Takanashi jumped 87.5 and 91 metres to earn a combined score of 241.1 points, which proved enough to win the contest.

“My jumps got better and better here with every round,” Takanashi said afterwards.

“On Friday in the training, I was not happy with my performance.

“But today, my approach to the take-off was much better.”

The rest of the podium was filled by Germans with Katharina Althaus getting a career best World Cup finish of second with 237.9.

This put her ahead of the Sochi 2014 Winter Olympics normal hill champion Carina Vogt, who scored 234.

Takanashi now has 1,095 points at the top of the World Cup leaderboard, which has put her 203 ahead of team-mate Yuki Ito, who finished fourth today.

In the men’s event in Oberstdorf, Germany, Stefan Kraft of Austria repeated his success on the hill during the Four Hills in December with another victory today.

Jumps of 227.5 and 218m helped Kraft get 439.9 points, which was 5.1 better than the score of German Andreas Wellinger, who won last Sunday’s individual competition on home snow in Willingen.

Current World Cup leader Kamil Stoch of Poland finished third with a score of 425.4.

Stoch remains on top of the standings with 1,038 points with Norway’s Daniel Andre Tande, who was fourth in Oberstdorf, in second place on 903 while Slovenian Domen Prevc third on 831.

Both the men’s and women’s World Cups will see competition again at the same venues tomorrow.
