Home favourite Les Gillett and Wales’ Jason Greenslade won the pairs competition at the World Indoor Bowls Championships in England after overcoming Welsh duo Damian Doubler and Daniel Salmon today.

Gillett and Greenslade won the final 7-7, 8-6 at the Potters Leisure Resort in Hopton-on-Sea in Norfolk.

Earlier in the day, Gillett ensured his progression in the singles competition with a 7-6, 10-6 win over fellow Englishman Tom Warner.

Next up for him is an encounter with Scotland’s Alex Marshall, who beat Wales’ Robert Chisholm 13-1, 6-4.

There was also singles success for England’s Nick Brett when he defeated Ireland’s Andrew Kyle 10-5, 8-8. 

Action is due to continue tomorrow, headlined by the mixed pairs final as Scotland’s Paul Foster and England’s Rebecca Field go up against Brett and Scotland’s Claire Johnston.

Three singles matches are also scheduled, including all-English ties between James Rippey and Greg Harlow and Robert Paxton and Jamie Chestney.

The other contest sees New Zealand’s Debbie Wilford face Foster.
