Hosts England are guaranteed a women’s singles winner at the World Indoor Bowls Championships after Ellen Falkner and Amy Stanton won their respective quarter-finals today.

Today’s action at the Potters Leisure Resort in Hopton-on-Sea in Norfolk saw Falkner defeat Scotland’s Claire Johnstone 7-7, 7-3 and Stanton overcome Australia’s Karen Murphy 6-9, 12-5, 2-1.

Awaiting Falkner in the semi-finals on Wednesday (January 25) is compatriot Janice Gower, who beat Katy Smith 5-6, 7-4, 2-0 in the first of two all-English clashes.

Stanton, meanwhile, will meet Katherine Rednall on the same day after she defeated Rebecca Field 6-4, 6-4.

Action at the event is due to continue tomorrow with the mixed pairs semi-finals and a singles encounter between England's Mervyn King and Gower.
