The meeting was divided in three working groups with FIAS chief executive Michal Buchel attending the first, which was entitled Developing a comprehensive vision of inclusive access for all.

The group followed the United Nations’ 10 Sustainable Development Goals aimed at reducing inequalities in society.

Participants discussed scenarios in physical education, physical activity and sport where inequalities can be become apparent. 

They also talked about the main requirements with regard to national and international policies, assessing where more evidence is needed, where examples of good practice can be observed and how stakeholders can better advocate for equal access opportunities to physical education, physical activity and sport.

Buchal also contributed to the second group, The Sports Movement, along with stakeholders.

Participants in this session discussed policies that have been adopted by the sport movement since the fifth edition of MINEPS, with the intention to provide equal opportunities for all members of society to participate in sport.

FIAS, meanwhile, presented its sustainable event management tool for the organisation of its events and also shared its perspectives related to gender equity and its social projects.

The world governing body's first sustainability report was published in 2015, based on that year’s Youth and Junior World Sambo Championships in Latvia’s capital Riga and World Sambo Championships in Casablanca, Morocco.

The report, accessible here details all elements that were used to conduct a sustainable event, ranging from the governance and compliance of FIAS to environmental, economic and social initiatives.

It also highlights initiatives for future events to promote sustainability within FIAS members and local organisers of SAMBO events.

Following this first participation at MINEPS, FIAS is seeking to strengthen its relationship with the UNESCO and find the opportunity to sign the Memorandum of Understanding on further collaboration.
