Three Welsh players will be among the four finallists in the men's open pairs competition at the World Indoor Bowls Championships in England.

It came on a day of semi-final surprises today at the Potters Leisure Resort in Hopton-on-Sea in Norfolk.

Anglo-Welsh combination Les Gillett and Jason Greenslade first won a thrilling dual with England''s Mervyn King and Scotland's Gourlay after fighting back from a slow start.

They lost the first set 8-4 before triumphing 7-3 in the second.

Greenslade and Gillett then hung on to win the decisive end.

Wales' Damian Doubler and Daniel Salmon romped through the first set 9-6 against English opponents Mark Dawes and Jamie Chestney in the second clash.

The English pair recovered to win the second 9-1 in straightforward fashion.

But the spoils went to Wales as Doubler and Salmon edged the last set 2-1.

There will be a week's break before the final is due to take place on January 23.

Ireland's Graham McKee beat England's Andy Thompson 9-4, 11-3 in today's lone open singles clash.
